What's the difference between crop and resize?

Cropping removes pixels from the edges (changing both dimensions and composition). Resizing scales the entire image up or down (changing dimensions but keeping all the content).

Not currently — the crop tool is single-image because the right crop region usually depends on the specific image. For batch resizing to the same dimensions, use the Resize tool.

What aspect ratio should I use for a YouTube thumbnail?

16:9 at 1280 × 720 pixels. Our 16:9 preset locks the ratio while you pick the focal area; export as JPG for the smallest file (YouTube accepts up to 2 MB).

Will cropping reduce image quality?

No. Cropping removes pixels at the edges but doesn't re-encode the remaining pixels. The output is the same quality as the input, just smaller in dimensions.

Not directly — the crop tool produces rectangles. For circular crops, use the Editor: draw a circular mask, then export as PNG to preserve transparency.
